Moriah Grace Waters

Words hold power. They are gifts given to us to remind us of timeless truths. Names are like this too, and my pen name is no exception.

Mount Moriah was the place where Abraham was called to sacrifice his most precious gift-- Isaac. Sacrifices in biblical times were offered to represent the Savior that would one day redeem the world by atoning for the people's sins. The sacrifice was meant to be a gift of grace. But how could the death of Abraham's promised gift be anything but a disgrace? Yet, in this unimaginable trial, the most precious truth was revealed.

In hearing Abraham's story, some people point a judgmental finger at God and label Him cruel. Others see it as a strange test of obedience and faith. But I would like to propose one more idea.

What was required as the penalty for sin? Death! (Romans 6:23) Our death is required because of our sins. Yet God's grace provided His Son to die instead of us-- the guilty party.

Abraham was meant to use his son as that propitiatory lamb, but Isaac was Abraham's only beloved son. Abraham wrestled with God's call for three nights on the way to Moriah; in the end, he chose to believe that God would be faithful to His promise. Abraham was ready to slay his son, but in the final moment, the hand of the aged father was stilled in the air. God, once again provided for a sacrifice and gave Isaac the grace to live another day. But Christ was not spared. The heavenly Father experienced the agony of giving up His only beloved son to a gruesome death. And why? For what? Love! Love for an unthankful world but a hurting soul too.

Millions today stumble about searching for some glimpse of hope, looking in all the wrong places. But the greatest gift of love and hope was revealed long ago upon that mountain. In the sacrifice at Moriah, God's grace was given to the multitudes (waters) of this world.

Let us then live our lives each day in honor of that gift and lean upon His matchless gifts of grace and faith. If the way is rough sometimes, glean some hope through words of life.

Why Poetry?

If you are anything like I was in elementary and middle school, you probably think that poetry is the dullest form of writing. The rhymes and meter don't always make sense, and not much is said. However, I have come to find that poetry is like expressing an idea in a musical sort of way (except without any instruments in the background). You may not always find all the lines in poetry to rhyme, but deep messages are embedded in the few lines. I would like to challenge you to look for that deeper meaning behind the words.

The first poem I ever wrote was based on a character found in the famous book Pilgrim's Progress. At the time, I was just trying to get a decent grade for an assignment in English class. However, God used this exercise to point out how much pain I was feeling. Writing that poem helped me to heal so that I could keep growing in Him. Since then, the Lord has placed several people in my life to encourage me to write more and share the blessings I have found.

My greatest passion in life is serving God through the gifts He has granted me. Writing is just one of those means by which I hope to be able to serve Him. My greatest hope is that you may find some truth and encouragement in the words published here. This is the way He shares hope with me, and it is how I wish to share it with you.
