Deliver Me!
"Why do you not answer me
When I cry to Thee?
Why are You so far away?
Why'd You flee from me?
Why'd You turn Your face away?
Why ignore my pray'r?
Why have You left me alone
In this dreadful fray?
I feel like a little ship
Tossed about at sea.
I see how the water's lips
Gape ajar at me.
As the foams of this great storm
Yield a grave for me;
I survey the ship now torn,
A lifeless form I see.
I'm sinking low,
The winds still grow,
But no rescue foreseen.
I'm drowned by woe,
My sorrows show
No future now for me.
Deliver me, my God on high!
Please hear my desperate cry!
All I could do, I now have tried!
Deliver or I die!"
Now, lo! A ray of light has pierced
The thickness of the dark!
I cling to hope with strength so fierce!
I kindle this small spark.
A flash of mem'ry from the past,
A Hand that held me firm;
Queries of old I never asked,
I see are now confirmed.
"I know You've cared for me before;
I know You will provide.
My pain you've borne, my scars you've worn,
My feet You always guide.
And so I'll give You all I am
And all I long to be.
I'll trust in Your unfailing arm;
I'll always cling to Thee!
I'll praise Your name above the rain,
I'll sing Your words anew.
I'll trust again that through the pain
You're
making something new!"
Amen.
