For Such a Time as This
Have you heard the
sound of heartbreak?
Do you know how true loss feels?
Have you seen tears shed 'til daybreak?
Brought to God desp'rate appeals?
"Oh, my Lord, the dream is breaking!
Questions now just flood my head.
My foundations now are shaking.
How could You not this prevent?
How did You not see this coming?
Why call me in the first place?
That bright future You were molding,
Now has blown up in my face.
How can I now bear to face this?
There's so much I've yet to learn.
I know lessons that I did miss;
Will another chance I earn?”
There's a light amidst the questions
As You answer while I plea,
And You give me an assurance
Through the Word You left for me.
You remind me of some people
That You called in ancient times;
And though it not always made sense,
You protected, led, provide'.
Take Queen Ester and her trials–
Orphaned, taken, life amiss;
Yet in time, she knew she had been
Called for such a time as this.
Then there's Daniel in a nation
That denied the law of God,
Yet he stood on his foundation
'Til the kings in him God saw.
And the list goes on for hours.
Think of Abraham and Paul,
Or of Moses in the desert,
Or of David in Saul's Hall.
All of them You called at one point.
All of them in You had faith.
Yet their futures seemed uncertain–
For some time, they had to wait.
So, is my trial any diff'rent?
Am I really all alone?
Or am I now simply joining
The long list of men You called?
You have led me 'til this moment.
You brought me here in right time.
And though now it's time to move on,
You my future hold and guide.
So I'll trust in Your sure promise,
And this test I will not miss;
I will trust You called and brought me
Here for such a time
as this."
Amen.
