Prayer for Healing

09/03/2023

During the summer of 2023, I had the privilege of attending a month-long training session for student missionaries wishing to work overseas. Coming in to the experience, I was expecting to simply learn tips on how to assimilate into a new culture, deal with different team dynamics, and perhaps learn a little bit of the new language. Instead, I was surprised by the incredible emphasis on relational healing.

"What does this have to do with going abroad to be a missionary?" was the thought running through my head. But as the month passed by and the training drew to a close, I came to realize why this must be the foundation of any evangelist and missionary. How can you share the gospel of a Savior who has power to save but not enough to heal and transform your own life? How are you to truthfully convey the beauty of the cross, if you've not experienced it's liberating power from the lies of the enemy?

"Salvation looks like relational healing," was one of the saying of our beloved trainer. When sin entered this world, the relationship between God and Adam was broken (Adam now feared and hid from God). The relationship between Adam and his wife Eve was broken, and he was willing to throw her under the bus and blame her their predicament. And finally, their relationship with God's creation through nature was broken. But when Christ came into this world, He came to heal the broken hearted, to set the captive free, and to proclaim the good news to the poor. He came to undo all the lies of the devil that tell us that we are worthless, hopeless, and too broken to ever be saved. And as God shows us His love and kindness through kind, loving people along the way, we begin to experience that healing in our lives.

My journey of healing is far from over, but I have had a glimpse into the light. And it is from a deep desire to continue finding healing that I've written this prayer. I hope it brings as much clarity and hope to you as it has done to me.
