To See His Face

I asked God to show me His face,

And He brought me here, to a crowded place.

He showed me you, His hands and feet.

I knew then – His face I would surely meet.

I asked God to show me His face,

And He showed me a quiet, wooded place.

As with Moses, David, and John,

This "Second Book" taught lessons of the Son.

I asked God to show me His face,

And He led me where I would feel His grace.

Up the steep, rocky mountainside,

So in His love, I would crave to hide.

I asked God to show me His face,

And He taught me how His hand to trace.

As the wind blows, we know not where,

So we can tell His Spirit is near.

I begged the Lord to see His face,

To see His working, His healing to taste.

And as I clung, as Jacob did,

I know, "I have seen His face – and lived."

Not all at once, no lightning flash;

But little glimpses along the path

Collected and combined, no storm can undermine

The picture of this God of mine!

"When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek." - Psalm 27:8
